Peace and its many aspects

Keys to Peace

Keys to Peace is, according to them, a:

“… peacebuilding organization in the Upper Keys [Florida], striving to help build a “Peace-able Community.”  We sponsor local activities that support tolerance, respect, dignity, justice, unity and nonviolence in our community.  We focus on creating a culture of peace through events, education and the Peace Academy of the Florida Keys.

We are also part of a nationwide grassroots campaign for a cabinet-level U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence  (http://www.thepeacealliance.org/)

We are a pro-peace, non-partisan organization.”

They do a number of interesting things, as you can see for yourself, but what really caught my eye was their amazing idea to have dolphins and sea lions create peace flags!  That’s right, as you can see right here , with a little help from some friendly humans sea lions Classy, Seth and Mimi, and dolphin Twister painted designs on flags that were enhanced by their human partners.  Here is what looks to be Twister’s flag.

As some of you know, I am rather partial to dolphins as peace images (though I’ve got nothing against doves either, obviously), and here we have dolphins and related sea mammals actually getting directly into the peace promotion “act”.  Very cool!

By the way, Keys for Peace is, it seems, a Buddhist community, and there is no question that the Buddhist tradition has been one of (if not the) most peace-oriented spiritual traditions on this planet.
